Materials:
- 8 oz worsted weight yarn

- Safety pin
- Yarn needle or large-eyed tapestry needle
Gauge: 7 single crochet stitches =2"
Instructions
Chain 22 stitches.
Row 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each remaining chain: you should now have 21 single crochet stitches; chain 1, turn.
Rows 2, 3 and 4: Single crochet in each stitch across, chain l, turn.
Row 5: Single crochet in each stitch across, turn.
On the next row, you will work an open mesh pattern, formed by alternating double crochet stitches with chain-1 spaces.
Row 6: Chain 4 (this counts as the first double crochet stitch and the first chain-1 space of this row); *skip the next single crochet, double crochet in the next single crochet, chain 1; repeat from the * to the last stitch, double crochet in the last stitch: you will have 11 double crochet stitches and 10 chain-1 spaces; chain 1, turn.
Row 7: Single crochet in the first double crochet and in the first chain-1 space; (single crochet in the next double crochet and in the next chain-1 space) eight times, single crochet in last double crochet; now you have reached the four chains that began the previous row; work a single crochet in each of the next two chains (work into the stitches, not the space); leave the next two chains unworked; chain 1, turn.
Rows 8, 9 and 10: Single crochet in each stitch, chain 1, turn.
Row 11: Single crochet in each stitch, turn.
Repeat Rows 6 through 11, 22 times more.
Hint: As the piece becomes longer, to make turning the rows more easy, roll up the work and pin it a few rows below where you are working.
At end of the last row, do not turn.
Now you will work an edging on the long sides, and a looped fringe at each end. If you have rolled the piece, remove the pin now.
Rotate the work so that the long side is at the top; your yarn will be at the top right corner, and you will now work into the sides of the single crochet rows to form the edging.
First Side Edging
Chain 1; *single crochet in the side of each of the next five single crochet rows; chain 3, skip the next double crochet row; repeat from * across the entire side, then single crochet in the sides of the last five single crochet rows. Now you have reached the beginning chain.
You will see there is an unworked loop remaining on the opposite side of the beginning chain from where you worked the first row. Rotate the work so the next short end is at the top. You will now be working into the unused chain loops.
Bottom Fringe
Chain 1, single crochet in the first unused chain loop; *chain 30, sc in the next unused chain loop; repeat from * across the short end.
Second Side Edging
Rotate the work so the second long side is at top. Ch 1, work same as First Side Edging. At end of last row, rotate the work so second short end is at top.
Top Fringe
Chain 1, single crochet in first single crochet of top row; * ch 30, sc in next single crochet; repeat from * across the end, join with a slip stitch to first single crochet of the border. Finish off yarn.
Using yarn or tapestry needle, weave in all loose yarn ends.
